illness has struck the city. everyone is ill. everyone. and i suspect that i have been the latest recipient of this illness. so full time may not be full time today when i go home to sleep.

Read about hapax legomenons, words that appear only once in a context or language. Aided by Zipf's law, there's a prediction for how often words will appear in a context. It's one of the bases for scholars to challenge authorship of works, along with a series of other tests.

I actually took some language classes during my brief time in college, and have always been amazed at these - hapax - and how without computers people were able to tell a word had only appeared once in the lifetime of a language.
