DAY FOURTEEN POST TWO

Explosions will have to wait until the next post. It's time I got cynical on yall. This is a precursor to my favorite old habit of ripping apart some random person's facebook profile. (I'll find some of the oldies but goodies in my mailbox. Perhaps even a guest post from who I'll call Liz DM to protect her identity.) You know what three years of routinely hosting people in Istanbul has done? Made me really cynical about people a) biking across the world b) hitching across the world c) traveling across the world or d) walking some absurd distance. Unless it's for the penguins (I'm not attributing this. No way, no how. I will, however, bold parts I find particularly important and I'll link to the blog.):

January, the coldest time of the year in the Northern hemisphere. An intercontinental expedition of 2 representatives, from USA and EU, are hitchhiking through frozen Europe just with one purpose: to encourage people pay attention to global warming and save penguins from extinction.


"We've decided to devote ourselves to this exhausting journey for the sake of penguins, our little non flying brothers. They are on the verge of ruin because of human-caused pollution and global warming. Instead of traveling comfortably in an airplane, we will go whole distance without using extra petrol or diesel. I think all of us still remember that brave little penguin who got lost in the ocean and swam 5000 km from the strait of Magellan to Peru's Paracas national reserve (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/6647485.stm). And if he did it - we can too!", [Ed. Note: this would indicate that these travelers would be swimming across Europe, no?] - the team, Andrew Perdue (USA) and Inga Popovaite (EU) addressing the people, before starting their epic journey from Museum of Sea in Klaipeda, Western Lithuania, to the Zoo in Tbilisi, Georgia (this Zoo symbolizing liberty and independence of all the non-flying birds as there are no penguins in confinement) [Ed. Note: aka this zoo is too poor to have penguins.]

We're also making an appeal to our friends in the couchsurfing community, to help us along in our journey. Anyone who has at least slightest interest in penguins are more than welcome to meet us for discussions about earth saving, climate changes and their prevention. And when we are in your city, perhaps we could organize some sort of demonstration, action or flashmob to bring attention to penguins and the effects that global climate change is having on them. Also, if you would be able to help us along our route, feed us, booze us up, give us a floor or couch to crash on, maybe even a ride, we would be extremely grateful to you and we would love to reciprocate and host you if you come and visit us in Georgia!

So, where were we? Ah, right - drunk at the Turkish border, having beers and jumping on a king size hotel bed (that's how rock stars\super cool travellers should act, right?). So, Thursday morning greeted us with huge hangovers.
