DAY ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE

I have an idea for these mid-to-early-twentysomethings: don't date douches. this new york article, linked in, is much better and more interesting, and integrates a favored threat: "Jesus fucking Christ, what the fuck kind of stupid porn have you been watching? Did you just smack my kitty? Dumbass!" I vote that team vagina bump adopt the vagina slap as a threat.

This article breaks my heart. What kind of horrible mom is telling her young child that when she's skinny she's a different person?

i don't know if i blogged about the treyvon martin debacle going on back in the US, but a faithful reader sent in this article about hoods, which, as we know, are a totally valid reason for killing an unarmed 17 year old kid, but only if he's brown or black. these articles make me so sad, and then i start reading about other hate crimes against kids, so best you all do your own research.

An article about neurotics bemoaning the loss of our woody allen-like friends brings up some changes in the DSM as evidence they're disappearing. I got into a debate with someone once who obviously knew very little about actual mental health issues, who tried to argue that aspergers wasn't real (and wasn't on the autism spectrum). citing the dsm, i was asked how psychiatrists would know anyway... had i been the one to argue against it, i would have probably cited something like this article (and others) demonstrating the changing nature of psychiatry - removing terms, recategorizing and removing illnesses. or, in fact, the prime example that until 1973 homosexuality was listed as a mental health illness. fun story: when i was in high school and went to calvin college to use their library for research for my debate case (which was to pass a law banning harassment on the basis of gender affinity/sexual orientation), the books about being gay were all in the mental health section. eep.

i wonder whether nicholas kristof got this article idea from the change.org email sent out by alissa? i need to get off those stupid lists.

this post is not very cheery. fear not, i'm also reading about data havens and rogue, tiny, kinda-fake nations and will blog about that sometime soon.
